Of course- the real solution would be a return to the dash top of the the 99's (model, not year). Basically an upholstered top using a vinyl fabric of some sort - the texture had the pebble look of the molded dashes, but light foam backing, so pens, etc don't rattle and buzz on it. My '79 was still crack free when I bid it farewell after 17 years of always being parked outside in the southern california sun and heat. I have seen a lot of stories of people with cracked dash boards and hhaave considered myself lucky because the dash on my 84 900 was pristine. But now I ha two little 1/2 inch cracks developing.
