Subject: 86 900S: Bad cold start, stumbles when warm, no warm start.

I have a 86 900S, 148k: This weekend, replaced the thermostat (finally getting the engine to reach a normal operating temp. Always cold before this) replaced the brake master cylinder, and washed the engine. Had a rough drive home from the car wash, but thought it was water on the coil. (And the dsitributor, as I found out later.) Really tough time restarting after all the repairs, finally got it going. (Dried the dsitrib.) BUT NOW>>>>> Still have the bad COLD STARTING problem, where the car starts fine when cold, runs for a few moments, stumbles badly then dies. If you keep the revs above about 2000, its fine. NEW Problem is totally dying at random moments, so far mostly when warm. Idling nicely, then stumbles badly and dies. WILL NOT RESTART. A wait, and then the car restarts pretty well, runs for a random period of time and then dies again. PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE with my Volvo (85 245, 180k)leads me to think the dying problem is the mass airflow sensor. IS IT POSSIBLE: that 10+ year old MAS's die when run through numerous restarts in short intervals? Platinum wire MAS's "burn off" any deposits when started, and I'm betting that I "fried" the MAS's electronics by the bad starting with the wet dsitributor. Want to venture an opinion? The COLD START problem is something else, and replacing the Fuel Injection temp sensor (NOT the one for the guage, or fans) didn't help. Thanks in advance. Ben
