Ken, Thanks for reply but let me explain a litle further: 1. I know about the switch as you describe it, its just that on my '88 9000 opening and closing the boot lid sometimes makes the light come on and sometimes not 2. On my '89 9000 opening and closing the boot lid doesn't activate the light at all 3. In both case, the light does come on when the switch is manually operated. 4. What ever 'device' makes the light operate when the boot lid is opened and closed is obviously not working, but in the absence of any obvious switches on the boot lid or frame, just what is the 'device' that does this and how do I get to it?
