I had the same problem in my '85 900T, ended up just being a matter of adjusting the vaccuum cut-out behing the clutch pedal. Sometimes the clutch pedal didn't come all the way up (jammed about 1in down) not a big deal but the little vaccuum switch that cuts out the cruise control would stay open and hence, no cruise. Sometimes you'd be running with the cruise control on, hit a bump and it would just cut out and refuse to come back on (same issue, pedal would be just a fraction too far down). I know everyone is thinking just fix the clutch pedal but the metal had burred and it was easier to just grease it and live with it than replace it. Hope this helps...
