Subject: SRS warning lamp triggers by surge?

Twice now my SRS (airbag) warning lamp has been triggered by switching the ignition on and off in quick succession. This situation arises for example when overcoming the start position safety lock. The Saab garage have read the code and say it has resulted from a power surge. Is this common and can it be avoided. I have a feeling the battery may be getting a little tired - could this affect it? Any thoughts welcome as the fuel bill resulting from regular garage visits is mounting up. Hugh
