Subject: Re: 9-5 V6 is here!!

Thank you Magnus for a good survey of engines and their limitations. Anyway, I still compare EXISTING engines, because if I want to buy something new NOW, so it doesn't matter whether Saab will come out with something more powerful later on. And moreover, I do not think they will come out with a bi-turbo. If they add just one "hard" turbo, there will be a turbo-lag, not noticable in S80. I DO drive right now Saab 9-5. Why I selected to move to S80 (except being a Volvo maniac) is better traction control of S80 comparing to 9-5. S80 has high speeds DSTC and STC systems, viscous coupling on front axis, Servotronic, hardened suspension at speeds above 150 km/h, etc. Also integrated GSM telephone, RTI and more space inside make me to sell 9-5 and order S80. Traction is the most important feature of active safety and S80 is a way ahead in it. However, I **will miss** that unique Saab feeling, which Volvo has as well, but not to such an extent as Saab. It happens often here that Saab drivers will flash lights on each other, thing uncommon for other car brands. As for the safety: S40 is the safest car in its class. It received 4 stars as the first car (in its class). Saab 9-5 is SAFER than S70, but I assume that S80 will be better than it. Why? Based on S40 great safety and many improvements made to S80, S80 should be even safer than S40. I believe 9-5 will loose its first place soon (after first official tests). And for the heated seats: yes, even my V70R AWD had heated rear seats. As for S70R with 320 hp: my Volvo dealer is driving this car. He has special chip modification (probably by TME), removed catalytic convertor, different air and oil filter, different pipe, etc. The car has manual transmission and can beat any BMW around (as he tested). If you want more info I can ask him and come up with a list of parts that make 320 hp S70R. As for the wheels: you can get S80 with 18" from the factory as an option. Well, I think we both like that Swedish taste of styling, comfort and design, just do it a little bit differently. Choosing between Saab and Volvo is more about tastes than comparing "real values" (Toyota Corolla might be the best value for the money). Enjoy your driving. Radek
