Yes, Saab has used heavily modified platforms -- in the 9-5's case, co- developed with Opel. Not really different than a lot of manufacturers these days, including VW Group and Volvo (is a Volvo S40 only a Mitsubishi?). Drive the cars, then you'll see how good they are.
