Subject: Re: SAAB 9000 CD Suggestions
In as much as he looks to be in the USA and he's looking for a CD, he's stuck
with the auto. Actually, for all its faults, the auto can be long lived if
treated with kid gloves and a lot of TLC.
I'm only on my second at 102K and the first one kicked it at under 10K for
reasons unrelated to the actual tranny itself.
But they do have a reputation. Keeping that in mind, budget enough extra, if
the transmission has over 40K on it, to do a manual swap.
If you keep the auto, make sure to never floor it from stop (let it get into
second before laying on the power) and be sure to change and flush the fluid
with Red Line (or other high grade ATF) every 25K-30K (most automatics have a
50K-60K between flushes).
