Subject: Oil features

Here are the scientific explations I learned at the university : Measurements are done at 255.2 K (0 °F) for thin oils and 371.9 K (210 °F) for the others. Nowadays the classes of oil are given by some more complex systems (modern oils : multigrade oils) e.g. 15W40 is the S.A.E-class (Society of Automotive Engineers) 15W gives the class for lower temperature e.g. the minimum dynamic viscosity (resistence too flow) at the lowest Temperature (cf. above) is 2606 cst (centistokes) and the maximum is 5200 cst. 40 gives the class of higher temperature in this case the minimum d.v. is 13.93 cst and the max is 16.77 cst. Often there are letters behind the code e.g. concerning the use : 15W40/ SA....SF this for gasoline cars the A means very lite work, the F means heavy traffic and a lot of cold starts. The S is replaced bij a C for Diesel cars the upper limit of the second letter by Diesel cars is a D (CA....CD). Johan 83 900 GLi 94 9000 CS 94 9000 CSE
