Never heard of such a thing, and I've put 100's of 1000's of miles on Saabs. My guess is that either it was misdiagnosed (didn't really need a clutch), or there's a problem in the system that prevents the clutch from engaging fully. This would cause slippage, which would cause premature failure. When you step on the gas with the clutch engaged, does the tachometer ever "get ahead of" the speedo (indicating clutch slippage)?
