I bought a ´91 900 with 50kmiles a bit over a year ago. Now 20kmiles later I have had only one major problem - brakes. Because of low mileage the brakes were stuck causing the brakes to overheat and it ruined (wrapped) the rotors. I changed the original brake pads at the same time. It was actually my own fault - didn´t have time to fix the brakes in time. Cleaning the brake calipers would have prevented it all. Another things to do has been changing the light bulbs. No matter how hard I think I can´t remember anything else. Oops, I replaced the wipers too (not motors or arms, just the things against the windshield) + oilchanges every 3kmiles. In future (BTW in future does not mean next month or this year - it means in next 1-5 years) I´m going to replace original shocks, CV-joint rubbers (before it is too late), org. exhaust pipe (rear end) and maybe outer front stabilazerbar "ends", there´s a clocking sound (clocking might be the shocks too). Acording to my earlier experience the cluth should do another 30kmiles. Never had problems with tranny, don´t know how long they last in hot klimate (where do you live-Saab was designed for northern climate). Waterpump might need replacement after few years. If there´s no problems with gas injection, I´m not expecting anything else. If you find a low mileage Saab you should open the brakes and clean them up. I have heard that 2.1 litre engine had head gasket problems. I think that ´90 model has already LH-jettronic injectionsystem - these "everything for low emission"-systems could rise some problems (many sensors etc. to fail > sum = less reliability - this goes for all cars). I personally like more of K-jettronic noncatalytic converter models because engine behavior is "smoother" (I´m not sure if LH is the name of the current system). Reasons why I have Saab: Stable to drive, ergonomy + driving position is high enough (I got used to it when I drove trucks), reliability, easy to fix things your self (save money), active and passive safety... I´m happy with my Saab, I hope you will be too. Roy 99 -82 900 -85 900 -91
