The main advantage of a synthetic is it's ability to protect the engine and flow in nonstandard conditions. A friend of mine flies little aircraft, and had a single engine Piper in which he used mineral oil. One cold (-15 below) morning he started the motor on the Piper and *didn't notice that the oil pressure didn't come up for almost 45 seconds at idle power*...It was not a pretty site. If you are using Mobil 1 in your engine, you know that it's going to flow and keep that Saab happy when you turn that key, whether it's 100 degrees outside, or 20 below zero.
