Just over a year ago I was looking at an 87 900S that had the automatic belts. Driver's side had the same problem. The seller, a Saab mechanic at a dealership, told me the ECUs were problematic, and he would have taken the manual belts out of my wrecked 87 900S and put them in the one he wanted to sell.
