Subject: 94 900S. How's yours been??

We bought a 94 900S new, and have mixed feelings about the car. It has the V-6, so that may account for some or the problems. Here's a list of things that have gone wrong since we've had it: 57,000: Replacement of radiator. (Plastic sides separated from metal center section) This really sucked, and Saab wanted us to pay almost $700 bucks to have it replaced (it's a non-serviceable item.) I went a little nuts, called Saab Customer service, and they eventually coughed up half the cost. 35,000: Timing Belt broke. Left us stranded, but Saab took care of the costs. 40,000: Dead battery: This happened only two weeks after we had a full dealer service, which was supposed to check the battery, fluid levels, etc. We bought a Diehard, and had Saab refund us for the cost. 45,000: Glovebox door broken (locked shut--won't open): This has happened twice. The first time they replaced the whole glovebox door. The second time it happened, I kinda pried it open, and had to disable the right side latch that holds the door closed. Something inside the actual front door is prone to breaking--and it can't be fixed, only replaced. Those damn window switches!! The switch module for the windows/sunroof often fails. I've become an expert at taking it apart and cleaning off the contacts. To replace the module was way too expensive--and I can now do the whole job in 15 minutes. This needs to be done about once every 3 months. Other minor trouble areas: Headlights burn out too often. I'm careful about replacing them and not touching the actual bulb. Emergency Brake needed to be tightened up early on--it shouldn't have been loose. Rear seats sometimes hard to unlatch. Clicking sound that comes from the engine compartment. This was part of a recall, and you don't hear it from the interior. Fairly noticeable from the outside. On the plus side, the car has proven to be a very capable hauler, and the sound system w/CD player is great. The V6 has given us little trouble, and good fuel economy, while being reasonably potent. I still like the styling--it hasn't worn thin on me yet. The handling is competent, and we feel confident in the bad weather. We'll keep it for a while, assuming we don't have any unusual problems. Next time we might move up to a 9-5. Steve R 94 900S 98 MB CLK 320 95 BMW K75 bike
