The main thing is to find out whether the trans has been rebuilt. Sooner or later, most of them need this done. Mine with 116K had it done by the previous owner with less than 60K miles! With that said, the engines go on forever if they've been decently maintained. I don't know about Austin, but out here in "Sillycon" valley, a trans rebuild will set you back about three grand. Some go for over 200K without needing a rebuild. It's kind of a crapshoot. By the way, you didn't stipulate whether this was a stick or an automatic. If it's an automatic, run, don't walk away. From what I understand the '87 and later models are better because of some upgrades, but I don't remember what they are. Good luck, Mike Z.
