Subject: Re: New Engine???

I replaced the engine on my 88 9000 with a junkyard engine that I paid about $450 for. I shopped around on the local junkyards, prices varied from $450 to $1150, I kept the $450 engine because it brought the turbo along and had only 80k miles on it (the original one had about 150k). I have kept the car for about 9 months now, and the only problem I have had was a bad oil leak from the oil pressure switch (which I then replaced) , otherwise it works perfectly. There are minor differences on the fuel injection system from a year to another, and my mechanic took a couple of extra days making the necessary adjustments; unless you have a good saab mechanic, I suggest you try to keep within the same production year. You should also replace the motor mounts (they go bad quickly in this car), and probably the starter as well. Good luck with whatever you decide.
