Compared to the A4, yes, it's a great deal... But $28k is pretty steep for a VW Passat with mediocre performance. The Passat 1.8T has simialr performance to the 2.8, but costs a lot less. In regard to the S70, R&T just ranked it last in a comparison of 3-series, A4, 9-3, etc... Meanwhile, C&D ranks it #3 in a test of seven cars.
