Subject: Front end problem - '89 900s

Have had an unusual problem in my 1989 900s for the last week or so. The steering wheel will intermittently cog when I am either going straight or making a turn. What I mean by cog is that it will make a series of sharp jerks, as if it wants to turn to the right, of maybe 3 degrres steering rotation. This problem comes & goes, scares the hell out of my daughter. I don't let her drive the car now & I drive it locally as little as possible. These cogs seem to happen once per tire revolution - the slower I go, the slower they go. I have just replced the driver's side cv joint assembly and plan to replcae the right side joint in the next week. Everything else looks fine. The tires & wheels & alignment are fine, as far as I know. I was thinking maybe a power steering pump that is ready to go? Anyone have a similar problem? Thanks. eichler.
