Subject: 9-5 rear deck speaker question
Hello:
I have a 1999 9-5SE. The rear deck (mounted behind the passengers' heads)
speakers do not seem to be quite right. They do not produce any discernable
output unless the volume is up and the music has some serious,
heart-thumpin' bass in it. Normal (rock jazz classical) music at normal
volume & bass settings produce no sound output. I've had several passengers
ask me why no sound was coming from the deck speakers.
I've asked my local dealer about this. The service staff informed me that
the rear deck speakers are sub-woofers. They noted on the service request
that I had improperly adjusted the radio which is laughable. Their answer
was to set the bass adjustment to its maximum setting and adjust the fader
until the rear speakers were receiving approximately 65% of the output
(35%->front/65%->rear). This can't be right.
First of all, are they really sub-woofers? Secondly, shouldn't the speakers
produce sound for normal music at normal volume & bass settings? Is it
possible that the crossover or some other component of the sound system is
not functioning properly? Other ideas?
Thanks!
