Subject: Alternator Compatability

Hello all, I've got a question about alternator compatability. My 83 900t has the voltage regulator going out, and instead of replacing it for 50 bucks, I'm planning on putting in a rebuilt alternator, as the old one is an original and shows a bit of bearing noise when it really gets hot. The 83 turbos all have 70 amp (or ??, some of my stuff says 35) Bosch alternators, with the single pulley getup for alt/waterpump (p/n: AL35x) . What I want to know is, can I retrofit an >84 alternator as those are all 80 amp (p/n: AL128x). More power, and also cheaper. Also, any of you out there care price me one of these? I'm in west NY. Troll? Also, kudos to Trollhattan Auto Parts for their series of *excellent* replies on the newsgroup. Keep up the good work guys! Thanks, SAABhuman
