Subject: 900T smoking just after startup? Anyone else?

I have an '85 900T that just had a cracked head replaced with one from a parts car. The replacement head/engine had been sitting for about 3 years. When it was running, the parts car never smoked, burned oil, etc. (Became a parts car due to body damage, not mechanical problems.) Shortly after the repair was done (along with all gaskets etc.) I started seeing oil smoke just after the car warmed up. By that I mean that there was no smoke upon start-up, but after a mile or so, if I had to sit at a light there would be dense smoke from the exhaust which would stop after I pulled away, and would stop completely once the car was fully warmed up. Oil level is not dropping precipitously in between changes (3-4000 mi. intervals). Anyone else had this happen? I would think that if it's a major internal leak, it would smoke heavily all the time, but it doesn't. There is a faint wisp when idling after being run for a while, but the car has 247K on this block (128K on the head) so I don't find that surprising. Haven't been able to get it back into the shop that did the work, am hoping that this is something that I can do myself i.e. doesn't involve pulling the engine.
