Subject: Re: Please GM - Don't Buy Saab

Sure they're innovative -- Safety -- world's first active head restraint, Saab safeseat concept, horseshoe shaped front and rear crash structures (enabling 9-5 to attain best crash test score ever recorded in Euro NCAP testing and allows the 9-3 to attain the lowest accident injury rate of any mid-size car sold in the U.S.), side impact beams with crash deflectors (they pivot to direct side impact crash forces away occupants), crash structures designed to withstand SUV impacts. These are just a few of the safety innovations that are unique to Saab and introduced on post-GM Saabs. Performance -- low-pressure and assymetrical turbocharging; more power, better fuel economy and fewer pollutants than competitors V6s. Also, far more performance versions for enthusiasts than ever before: 9-3 Aero already available in Europe, 9-5 Aero available MY00 (both sedan and wagon), 9-3 Viggen available in April. 9-5 Viggen tbd? Versatility -- 9-3 has biggest trunk of any car sold in the U.S.; new wagon is loaded with innovations -- sliding cargo floor that holds nearly 500lbs when fully extended, load securing cargo tracks strong enough to support the weight of the entire car, etc... The list goes on and on... So yes, Saab continues to be innovative... Regarding sharing with GM, yes, Saab 9-3 and 9-5 share a basic floorpan with Opel -- however, both platforms were designed by Saab and Opel engineers together. In addition, the Saab platforms are heavily modified to reflect Saabs needs. If you saw the two together (Opel and Saab) would you recognize them as the same? Nope. Regarding future technology, I can only say you'll see...
