I wouldn't say the 9-3 is an improvement over the 900 - it's just a "different" type of Saab. Different styling, some different options, but same heritage. They are like cousins - different things but a common past which ties them together. Hard to say which is "better". However, the 1996-1999 9-3s ARE an "improvement" over the 1994-1995 9-3s. The 9-3s in the early GM years were dogs - stay away from them or they'll bite you. Most people will say that the "classic" Saab design is the 900 from 1993 and before.
