Subject: Intermittent high beams?

This is an interesting one. My high beams were working intermittently for a short while then not at all. I check the fuses and then the switch on the steering wheel and all seems ok. Then I went to the relays. The big headlight relay seems to have a contact on it that has been melted. The fuse box area that it plugs into is also a little fried. I cleaned the contacts on the relay with an emery board then plugged it back in. Now the high beams work again intermittently and the relay is making one strange frying noise. If the high beams don't work and you jiggle the relay they will work. What gives, is the relay shot or is there a short somewhere?? Anyone been through this one? Any way to test the relay or wiring? Thanx for your help. -----> Please drop 'dead' to e-mail, Thanx. <-----
