Subject: Help with strange Turbo Problem

Folks, I have a '97 9000 Aero that has developed a very stange problem. For the first 5K mi it was a bat out of hell. I loved it. After that it started feeling slow, like it wasn't as quick as it used to be. I asked the dealer several times, they keep telling me that everything is fine. Recently I started noticing more evidence that everything is not fine. When the outside temp is warm and the car is hot, I don't seem to be able to get anything but base boost. On warm days I can get close to full boost on the first attempt after it is warmed up in the morning after that just base boost. Sometime the boost is erratic, if you hold your foot in it the boost gauge will bouce between base boost (the first yellow line) and full boost (begining of full red) and back. In cooler weather I get a little more reliable results, but things are still strange. Sometimes the boost gauge will got way into the red (halfway between the start of the full red and the end of the dial). Even when it seems to get to full boost, it seems to take forever to get there. It now normally takes 5-10s (about 1500 rpms) before it has built full boost. This is even if I drop the hammer with the rpms already up at about 3000. My old '86 9000 with the big turbo would jump if I had the rpms alread up there. The 97 with the small turbo is supposed to have minimal turbo lag. If I remember correctly during the first 5K I had virtuall instantaneous throttle response. I guess I am asking if this is my imagination or if there really is a problem. If so, does anyone have any idea? My dealer seems clueless. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -- E.R.
