Subject: Re: 1984 900T: Changing 5spd Tranny Oil

Dear James, On the times I have changed tranny oil I have found the plug to be very tight and have broken a couple of square keys in the process - tip use a quality adapter in the square socket and get an assistant to apply some additional tourque to the outer rim of the plug with some pipe grips. I changed from standard oil to some synthetic gearbox oil and found the shift far bettter, especialy when cold) but am not sure what to put in at the next change (after 20000 miles) as the gearbox is realy designed to take engine oil. MTL is specificaly designed for trannys that were designed like this and most Saab enthusiasts swear by it. Dont use Synthetic engine oil though as its too slippery for the syncomesh to work. John
