Subject: Re: 1989 900 Turbo 16V Fuel Grade?

I tried 91octane fuel to 98 octane fuel an found out for my 1993 900 turbo convertible 2.0l engine: Yes, you feel a litte more power, the 91octane fuel is more smooth to drive, the 98octane fuel more nasty, my fuel consumption is higher with the 98 cause I am to stupid to take my foot off the pedal again, cause0 the engine revs and blubbers soooo nice. ; ) Saab says higher octane brings higher performance (you are also allowed to mix some NITRO according to US owners manual ??? - crazy!) One last thing: Last summer I drove on our Formula 1 GP track (A1-Ring/Österreich/Spielberg) with my 900TC 5 laps - my tank was 1/4 full (98oct) and after 3 laps the fuel lamp turned on! Ok, so when you go to top speed (close to 195/200km/h on the clock, say 185 real) the 900 turbo wastes excessive fuel!!! So - 91 octane is cheaper!!! CU- RCS John Mason: > I am currently using regular (premium) unleaded fuel here in the UK. This is > what it has always been filled with during it's 120K life. I believe that > better performance can be achieved from using a higher octance fuel "super > unleaded". Anyone got any experience with this? > > I am currently getting a VERY steady 24-25 mpg now matter how I drive it. > Is this normal. I read on the group you could get better mpg from going up > to super? Is this true?
