The last few posts that I've read address the pros-and-cons of the 328i vs the Saab 9-3 in a very distinct and erudite fashion. Personally, as an owner of an '84 900T, I would go with the 328i without hesitation. That, however, is because I want my next car to be about performance, and performance, with a helping of performance, and in my test driving experience (I've driven a 99 328i and a 98 9-3), the 328i (especially with the sport package) was a more exciting driving experience. No torque steer, better shifter throws, greatly superior handling. And the convertible is significantly more rigid than the Saab convertible, if you're considering that route. Yes, BMWs are much more "dime-a-dozen", and carry some negative connotations I don't like -- but personally, I think they're more of a driver's machine. YMMV. J.
