The coolant was replaced along with a radiator core about 10,000 miles prior to my buying the car... As for the pistons, I coasted to a halt along the side of the road when the needle pegged. The failure occurred on the way to the rehearsal dinner for my wedding... My folks, who were following me, pushed the car to the next exit with their Oldsmobile. The wedding was the next day, so the car sat immobile for two weeks. I'm sure you're right... If I had gotten it to Ludvig the next day, the rings and bearings wouldn't have rusted. But then, I'd have missed my honeymoon. I'm not saying (and didn't say) all BMW's are bad cars. I'm saying I had a bad experience with one. And just like Volvos (at least the 100 series and 200 series) seem to frequently "driven" by people who probably all the crash protection they can get, BMWs seem to be driven by people who can't seem to aim their fog lights correctly and can't tell when the fog has lifted. I'm sure you never do that. As for the 182, it's just more practical to do 140 several thousand feet up when you live in a state where the roads are as heavily patrolled as mine (be really careful around Olympia). Or when crossing water is involved. Tell me sir, how fast can you drive your Audi across Puget Sound? It was a witty line, though ;-) Best regards. PS why the heck are you sticking up for BMW? I think the Audi (esp. the Quattro) is a better choice. C.R.
