My '89 900s was recently rear ended. Besides the body & chassis damage, there was mechanical damage as well. Fifth gear took some finnessing to engage. I would move the shifter to the fifth gear position & then have to find the one sweet spot that would keep the car in fifth. Once in gear, the car worked fine, it would not pop out of fifth & could just as easily accelerate as before. The one thing was that when engaged in fifth, my backup lights would come on. Neither of these problems happenned before impact. The car has since been fixed. My question is - Has anyone ever had this problem before? Both the other party's insurance company (let's call them Fate Starm) and the local dealer's mechanic say this problem was not caused by the accident - implying I am full of beans. BTW - a local independent shop repaired the car. These two mechanics were with another dealership before starting their own shop. This independent shop is called Peterson Automotive of Skokie, Il. Anyone with similar problem? eichler.
