I changed more than my share of masts and can offer this advise. The clip holding in the mast is only a friction fitting and pulling hard is really what needs to be done. With new masts that won't retract, there are a few possible explanations. Either a piece of the old mast-plastic trac has broken off inside the motor housing and must be taken out (not a tough job as I recall -- the worst of it was just getting the motor out from the quarter panel) or you've purchased a "universal" replacement mast versus a Saab replacement. If the latter is true, I recommend you trim the plastic trac before final assembly. MVT 85 900S (202K)
