Subject: Re: bad gas guage / really small tank? on '88 900 3-door

Your experience isn't unusual. There are two causes for inaccurate readings... the sensor in the tank may be faulty... this is relatively easy to replace being accessible through a port under the trunk carpeting.. or, more likely, you have a poor ground or poor connection in the sender/guage circuit. Your first step should be to tighten all the guage grounds and connections. BTW, the guages tend to read lower than is correct even when they are working properly. I suppose this is SAABs attempt to keep us from running the gas too low. My 900SPG reads nearly 1/4 tank low. Also, BTW, does anyone know the correct volume of the gas tank for the '88 900SPG. I thought it was 16.5 US Gal. but a recent fillup registered at 17.5. (I believe that the service station was gouging to take advantage of the current unconscionable fuel prices here in Cal.) Tom
