Subject: Re: Transmission help please!! and possible auto to man swap on 9000

Steve, I would pass on options 1 and 2... with the reliability record of those transmissions, it would be a real crapshoot. A junkyard tranny might be an OK choice if it was from a late model w/low mileage, but even then I'd worry. Option 3: Certainly viable if you have the time. I've done this swap several times on old 900's, never on a 9000. Basically you're looking at swapping the tranny itself, the shifter and linkage, installing a flywheel and clutch, installing the ancillary clutch components (pedal, master cylinder, hydraulic lines), and a little wiring (backup lights, and "neutral safety" circuit). The 9000 5-speed is a very nice transmission, generally not subject to the reliability problems of the 900 transmissions, and the 9000 automatics. Option 4: If you're considering this, step #1 is get the transmission repair manual from your friendly local Saab dealer. Should cost you about $20.00, and is very well-written with lots of drawings. You also have a good parts/advice source nearby: Eriksson Industries in Old Saybrook, CT. I've rebuilt a bunch of 900 5-speeds, and have always bought my parts from them. Cheaper than the dealer, better stock, and much more helpful. They sell rebuilt 9000 automatics, so you *know* they have the parts! Good luck! Eric Law Oh, by the way, if you go with option 3, you can probably recoup some of your investment by charging local 9000 owners $10.00 to take a whack at your old automatic with a sledgehammer. You'd probably get a lot of customers... 8*) Steve B <srbaileynopsamaone.net> wrote in message news:vic73.33$5H.5551nopsams01.ne.mediaone.net... > Hello to all.
