Hi, You can avoid removing the bottom bolt and instead concentrate on the bracket between the bolt and the engine. It's held in place with three allen key bolts (use an allen key with a ball end, which gives more room to manoeuver). In the 1983 workshop manual for Saab 99 (in this regard probably the same as that for the 900), there's text that says that taking out the generator _with_ bracket is the only way to go (no room to remove the long bottom bolt, as you found out) . . . . . . but I've not peeked under the hood of a 1988 900, so I hope I'm not misleading you ;-) regards, Robert delete the "NOSPAM" in my mail address for email replies erogers wrote: > Hello , I need to replace the alternator on my 1988 Saab 900s .
