No filter will catch acids, obviously. However, an oil sample can tell you if the oil is still adequately base to neutralize acids. AMSOIL gas engine oils start out with a base number of 11 or 12, so they can last a long time. When you do get water? Usually from condensation after cooling, right? And running at operating temperature lets the water go away as steam. So unless you do an awful lot of short haul driving, not heating the engine and oil (like 3 blocks to work and back<g>), you shouldn't have a problem.
