Subject: Buying as a Tourist

I've known for years about the cost savings when Americans buy a car and take delivery while on holiday in Europe, then having the car shipped home. But I've never talked to anyone who's done this, and don't have a good idea about how much one can save or the possible pitfalls. What experiences has anyone had, good or bad? What about taxes in the US? About how much (in percent) can one save as compared to a well negotiated purchase from a dealer? Both Saab and Volvo offer and encourage tourist purchase arrangements. Has anyone here dealt with them? How is the service once you get them back to the States? Do you get a cold shoulder from your local dealer, or are you treated well when you come in for service? What's Sweden like in the fall? Jim Brown Chicago
