Subject: Saab 9-5 Aero

Hello all, the local magazine have some info concerning the 9-5 Aero (and 9-3 Aero). As model year 00 the 9-5 Aero will be launched (officially in Frankfurt Auto Show in September), 230 hp and 350 Nm at 1900 rpm! The car will include 17'' wheels and a lowered 'sports chassis' as well as some plastic 'spoilers'. Saab will also badge the 9-3 high output turbo (205 hp from my00), with 'exterior and interior package', Aero. As a matter of fact I went for a test drive (600 km) of a 9-5 Aero with manual transmission yesterday, on first and second gear the power was a little bit of a disappoinment. (Due to the torque limitation on those gears?!), but on 3rd, 4th and 5th what a car! If you drive on 5th in 70 km/h and press the accelerator you can notice a slight turbo lag but from 80-90 km/h the power (torque) is massive. No need to down shift when overtaking. At 240 km/h (still very slowly increasing) I had to break for a slower car, the ride was quiet and felt very safe but the highway felt very narrow and the, in 110 km/h speed straight highway, felt curvy! Very good handling when driving on smaller more curved roads, as well. The tires (245/45x17'') made slightly more noise in the compartment. An advantage, compared to my 9-3, 185 hp, is that it is possible to make 90° corners in 3rd gear (better torque), when in my car I need to shift to 2nd if the car not should be 'dead' when pressing the accelerator. Regards Anders
