J, I had an 86 9000 for 11 years and 160K+ miles without a lick of trouble from the turbo. I can only suggest that you let it idle 20-30 seconds before turning it off every time, regardless of how you drove. Also change the oil frequently as recommended by the owner's manual. I would have suggested every 3750 miles, but the new ones are every 5K miles, although I am still a little wary on this extension.
