As I just posted here, I am now driving my second Saab 9-5 (which succeeded a Saab 900SE). Obviously, I've become rather passionate about these cars. (But, hey, I still carry an Apple Newton Messagepad, so what do I know? :-) But what Saab really needs to build -- more than the planned me-too SUV out of the GM parts bin -- is a Saab 9-7 sedan. Take the 9-5. Make it two inches wider, two inches taller, and eight inches longer. Stuff a small V-8 under the hood. Redesign the dash to accommodate a GPS navigation display (lose the tape deck, if necessary; the CD doesn't take up much room). Pay Bang & Olufsen an obscene amount of money to festoon the interior with speakers. Put in two (count 'em! two!) decent cupholders that will accommodate American-sized drinks. Charge $50,000 for the package. I'd buy one. In fact, I'd put down a deposit now on the mere promise of being allowed to buy one in two years.
