I put one in my '83 900T 5-speed, mainly because I didn't want to take it apart to change so often. In my '82 900T (which I still have) and my '91 900S Auto Convertible, I use[d] Amsoil oil-impregnated foam filters. I cannot perceive any difference with either filter, but they do indeed last a lot longer between cleanings than paper filters. Several years ago, after a period of off-road driving (not quite '4-wheeling country'), I was AMAZED at the amount of mud and gunk on the outside of the filter on the '82. It still ran great, and the inside of the filter was clean. I'm not sure the K&N would stand up to that kind of abuse... -- John R.
