Yeah, the HK stereo in my dad's '96 CDE has the same problem. I've been fiddling with it for weeks - trying to get the bass down to reasonable levels in the back seat without ruining the whole experience. Right now I've got it set with: - flat EQ - -6 BASS - +2 front fader Thats the best I've been able to do so far.
