Subject: Re: 9000 discontinued in US

YO! Mark and Jan! The man asked WHY the 9000 was discontinued...not IF is was. We all know its gone... Chih, since the 9-5 was a much advanced design (although a little boring compared to the 9000, IMHO) it totally replaced the 9000 in the lineup. Saab decided to go with new nomenclature since this was a totally new car...not a redesign. And since the 9-5 is actually several thousand dollars cheaper than the 9000 of last year, it would not work to have both of them on the lot. Plus, Saab is putting a shitload of money and promotion behind the 9-5, something they never did with the 9000. I think the lackluster sales of the 9000 (at least in the US) was due in great part to the lack of any marketing out of Norcross on behalf of the car. I remember seeing a TV spot for the Aero in 1996 and I just about fell out of my chair...first spot for that model I had EVER seen. Anyway, it was too little, too late. If they had pushed the 9000 like the are the 9-5 it would be a different story. Most people in the know refer to the Saab 9000 as automotive's 'best kept secret.'
