Subject: Mercedes Air Conditioning probs in Houston

Hey there: The air conditioning to my 1993 Mercedes 300E just went "kerplunk" in the middle of summer. I am brand new to Houston, Texas and have no idea who might be a fairly priced and good automobile air conditioning business here in town. (I'd prefer a place that would not charge me a whopping amount for an estimate; one place I called today told me that it would be $100 for an estimate to be applied to a probable total cost of $600-$1200 when I got it fixed there.) I moved from Nashville, where I had one friend - an auto body guy - who had trained seemingly everyone in town and was loaded with connections. Any problem at all that I had he either worked on himself or farmed it out to some trustworthy yet economical guy that he knew. Although that was great in Nashville, it has left me stuck here in Houston, because I have no such guy. Of course there is also always the open question of whether a Mercedes should be "taken to the dealer" or whether the dealer is overpriced and should be avoided almost at all costs... Does anyone have any suggestions on this? If you have a way to copy your post to my email account it would be doubly appreciated. Thanks a lot, Kevin Kornreich ------------------------- kevinnopsamenweb.com
