Dear Andy, If you are considering buying a 900 and you are unfamiliar with the model - get a saab expert to check out any potential purchase first. Contrary to what the previous replys have indicated there is not a "huge" difference in power between 8 and 16 valves the 16 is smoother in its power delivery with bit more higher up in the rev range and by virtue of a higher gear ratio and electronic fuel injection it is more economical. In the uk they are rated at 155 8v (145 before 1987) and 175 16v. In my experiance performance can vary significantly between similar spec models - I have driven 16v slugs and neck snapping 8v,s Changes happened in 87 - new front lights and bumpers, new brake system and intercooling for the 8v. If you are looking for an "entertaining" car go for a the older 99 turbo if you can find one - the most fun Saab ever made. All the best John
