Subject: 900 GLS: Steering rod-end ball-joint gone ?

I've just replaced a outer CV joint on my 1984 900GLS. Part of this process required that I split the ball joint on the steering rod-end. I don't know too much about ball-joint mechanics, but I noticed that when I was rebuilding the wheel assembly, when I got to re-attaching the steering rod-end, as I tightened the ball joint nut, after so many turns the nut just kep turning and not tightening any further! Does this mean the ball-joint has gone...which means purchasing a new steering rod-end or do I somehow need to clamp the balljoint to allow me to tighten the nut to it's correct torque ? My Haines manual is not specific about this..... All useful input greatfully received. -- Paddy Howard Peterborough Cambridgeshire UK
