i've got an '89 turbo and i just replaced a radiator fan that was blowing the fuse when it ran. the new fan is working but i think it might not be going on at the right time.
i just bought the car and i'm not sure exactly when those fans are supposed to operate.
- if i push the a/c button in they both go on.
- if the car gets really hot (up above 3/4 on the guage) they also both go on.
- if the car's "warm" and i jump the sensor that screws into the radiator
they both go on.
i thought there was a condition where only one fan would go on and off ??
are there other sensors? i'm guessing there's one that's inline in the radiator hose and i heard there's a "computer" somewhere that's also involved in all this.
i'm wondering the best way to trouble shoot the system. i'm trying to avoid going to the dealer. for all i know it's working correctly. i thought that a single fan was supposed to go on at around 3/4 of the way up. it seems like it's waiting until it's higher than that. sitting in traffic in 85+ degree heat i get nervous and push in the a/c button to make sure both fans are on (i know you're wondering why i don't have the a/c on anyways but i like the windows open and i don't like the way the car feels with it on (i get weird vibration in the brake pedal, but that's probably another can of worms...).
any info would be appreciated
thanks a lot.
jim leone
