Some amplifications to Johan's comments: I don't think they produced the V-6 at all in '96. You do need to look out for some problems with the 1996 model year *convertibles*, as they were only the second year of production on this body style (1994 convertibles were still the old body style). As I remember the Car and Driver long term test of a 1995 V-6 convertible, they had problems with the top and with the key not coming out of the ignition (yes, they had it in reverse). My 1996 900 S 5-door has been quite wonderful, so I agree with Johan's statement that most of the bugs were worked out by 1996 in general. All that said, you might be better off with a higher mileage 1997 convertible than a lower mileage 1996 convertible. The '97's had other improvements, like improved brake and clutch and an adjustable lumbar support on the driver's seat.
