Subject: Re: SAAB vs BMW

Another important factor is the driving habits of the previous owner. I have owned a Saab 9000 and a BMW 320i, the BMW owned by a 40-yr-old guy who always drove about 80+ mph -- it had 30,000 miles on its 2nd engine when the car was at 150,000. The gearshifter felt like it had been abused too. I was young and inexperienced, so I bought it anyway. We now have a Saab with 239,000 miles on it that was driven buy a woman who used it for business travel. It's in at least as good as shape as the BMW that had 90,000 fewer miles. Comparable electrical problems in both cars. Both cars were an absolute riot to drive, had similar handling characteristics, I think. I would like to get a BMW when/if our Volvo dies, if I can find one that hasn't been abused (a pretty tall order).
