Subject: Re: Buying a 1990 Saab 9000

I have an 88 9000 Turbo. I agree with the comment regarding the electrical gadgetry. I have had nothing major electrical go wrong however. Mechanically...that's another story. Mine has 167,000 miles. I had to replace the head gasket at 120,000. I just replaced the transmission with used one (of course a new clutch was installed too). The clutch hydraulic system was temperamental afterward for a little while. I'm expect this car begun the dreaded nickel-dime breakdown and repair faze of it's life. The turbo hasn't given me anything but shear pleasure. It does go through the soft rubbered 205/55R15s though. I drive the 205/60R15 tires which you can find a little more variety on tread designs and rubber compounds at this size. The car you've found has way too many miles on it. You should be able to find a 9000 or a 900 in a 1990 version with 60 to 80 thousand miles. I suggest not falling in love with the first one you find as I did. I've just recently seen an 88 and a 89 9000 with under 90,000 miles. Keep looking. Body Metal Issues: I'm the 3rd owner, the car was wrecked on the passenger side by first owner which I didn't learn about until way after the purchase. So there is terrible rust problem. The 900 series has thicker sheet metal than the 9000 prior to the new 900 body style. I'm told if a door starts to rust, trash it and find a replacement. I've seen rust reappear in less than a years time on my car. Good luck in your search. ---------- In article <933425674.13978nopsamworld.remarq.com>, bamaterp <bamaterpnopsamo.com> wrote: > I am contemplating buying a 1990 Saab 9000 Turbo hatchback > for my daughter.
