Subject: 1995 Conv Top Busted

The top on my 95 900s convertible will only lower itself one out of five tries. 4/5 of the time it appears that one side of the top is lowering without incident while the the other side gets stuck The display panel reads Check Soft Top. I took it to the dealer who informed me that the fifth bow in the top is broken. There are two options for repair: welding or replacement. Replacement is $1200 and repair (if they can weld it) is $500. Questions: 1- Can I beat these prices? Are salvage yards an option? 2- Could I lower the top manually for the remainder of the summer and deal with this next year? How does one lower the top manually?
